Wednesday: Mercy
Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty God, you always have a plan for us, and it is a good one. Thank you for being with us now, and for showing love and mercy even when we don’t deserve it. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.
Matthew 3:15
Jesus answered, “For now this is how it should be, because we must do all that God wants us to do.” Then John agreed. (CEV)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: John agreed to baptize Jesus, because it was what God wanted him to do. How can we know what God wants us to do, in our own lives?
Child: Throughout his whole life, Jesus was obedient to God’s will, even when that was difficult. Why can it be hard to obey someone else? Tell us about a time when you struggled with being obedient.
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
God of grace, we want to obey you and live the way you’d have us live. Help us to learn more as we study the Bible, go to church, and talk to caring Christian people. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you obey God, and follow him! Amen.
