Holy Family Time: September 14th

Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, thank you for giving us your Word, where we learn about people from other times and places. As we hear their stories, may we grow stronger in faith, ourselves. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

Paul was speaking late one night
When he had an awful fright:
One man, on a window sill,
Leaned too far and took a spill.

Tumbling backwards to the ground
With a shout, and then no sound,
He was gone. They thought him dead.
“He will live—don’t fear,” Paul said.

All were comforted to see
The young man breathing easily;
After this, they shared some bread,
Praising God, who raised the dead!

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: It must have been so scary to see someone fall from a building! What would you have done if you were there when that happened?

Child: Why do you think the people praised God at the end of the story? When have you praised God after a frightening experience?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, you protect us from so much in this world. And even when hard things happen, you help us through them. Thank you for your love and compassion. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you praise God at all times. Amen.
