Wednesday: Mercy

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Heavenly Father, you want all people to believe in you and walk in your ways. Help us to see that your mercy is for all people, and that by your power, you are able to turn strangers into friends. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Acts 10: 34-36
34 Peter then said: “Now I am certain that God treats all people alike. 35 God is pleased with everyone who worships him and does right, no matter what nation they come from. 36 This is the same message that God gave to the people of Israel, when he sent Jesus Christ, the Lord of all, to offer peace to them … Peter said, 47 “These Gentiles have been given the Holy Spirit, just as we have! I am certain that no one would dare stop us from baptizing them.” 48 Peter ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and they asked him to stay on for a few days. (CEV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Have you ever met someone from another country, or someone who spoke a different language? How does God want us to treat people who are different from us?

Child: Why does God want all people to know about Jesus and believe in him?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Almighty God, we ask that you would help us to respect all people, no matter how different they may be from us. Help us not let differences stand in the way of us doing what is right, and letting others know about the promise of Jesus. In his name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May God open your heart to share the Good News of Jesus. Amen.
