Thursday: Compassion
Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty Father, give us the words that inspire us to care for others and be kind. Make us your servants, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Listen: Listen carefully as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.
On Pentecost a great wind came,
on each disciple tongues of flame.
God’s Spirit came to give them power,
to speak his message at that hour.
People from around the world;
heard them speak in their own words.
In different languages they heard,
the startling promise of God’s Word.
This is what the Bible told
would happen, from the days of old:
“God will pour out his own Spirit;
He will speak so all can hear it!”
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: Tell me a time when someone couldn’t understand what you were trying to say to them. How did that feel?
Child: What are some of the ways that God helps us to communicate with others? What things would God want us to keep in mind when we talk to other people?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Loving God, you shower us with your compassion and send us into the world you love so that all might know of your Son who died for us and gives us new life. Give us the words that others will hear this message and come to know your love in their lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit open your ears to hear the good news of new life. Amen.
