Thursday: Compassion
Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Dear God, thank you for loving us, and for giving us Bible stories so we can learn from those who went before us in faith. Help us to understand more each day. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Listen: Pay close attention as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.
Mean King Herod had a plan,
For he was a sneaky man.
Hearing of a newborn king,
He thought up a trap to spring.
“Can you find this child for me?”
Herod asked the wise men three.
Searching, then, they found the boy
And were overcome with joy!
Frankincense and gold and myrrh
Were three gifts they did confer.
When they left another way;
Herod did not win that day!
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: Why do you think that Herod wanted the wise men to find Jesus? What was his plan?
Child: What are frankincense, gold and myrrh? Why do you think the wise men gave gifts like this to a young child?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Holy God, the wise men knew that little Jesus was a king. May we, also, realize how special he is, and worship him as they did. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you love Jesus as he loves you! Amen.
