Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, open our ears to hear your word, our minds to understand it, and our mouths to share it with others. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

After traveling by sea
Paul and friends did all agree
Malta was an island where
They could rest and breathe fresh air.

Then a viper bit Paul’s hand
As he gathered sticks on land;
Local people there were sure
Paul would die; there was no cure.

But the Lord protected Paul
And he made it, after all.
More than that, he healed the ill,
Curing them as was God’s will.

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: What good came of Paul’s scary experience with the snake bite? When have you gone through something difficult, and later saw something good in it?

Child: Have you ever been healed of a bad sickness? How did God help you through that time?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, you shower us with compassion, and bring good out of even the most difficult things. Use us to lead others to you, so they might experience your love as we do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you share God’s love with others. Amen.
