Tuesday: Struggle

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy Father, you are with us in whatever we face. When we feel alone and rejected, may you keep our spirits strong. Help us not to give up in the face of discouragement, and keep us faithful to your Word. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Acts 13:43-46
Many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. 44  The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45  But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him.  46  And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Have you ever tried to tell someone something important and they didn’t believe you? What happened?

Child: How did the apostles handle rejection? Did they let it stop their work?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Lord God, sometimes we face rejection. But we know that your servants faced the same kind of rejection. Give us boldness and confidence in you, that we would not be discouraged. Help us to serve for your sake, not for the the response we receive. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you be bold in faith and trust in Jesus’ power. Amen.
