Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord God, you gave us the gift of baptism, and because of that, we are always your beloved children. Be present with us now as we read and study, and help us to understand your Word better each day. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.
1 Corinthians 1:15-17
Paul wrote: Not one of you can say that you were baptized in my name. I did baptize the family of Stephanas, but I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else. Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to tell the good news without using big words that would make the cross of Christ lose its power. (CEV)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: Like Paul, all Christians have important work to do here on earth. What do you think Christ has sent you to do?
Child: Do you think it is helpful to tell the good news in a simple way, without using a lot of big words? Why or why not?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Heavenly Father, you have called each of us to serve you using our own unique talents. Give us the courage to tell others about Jesus, and the wisdom to know what to say and when to speak. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you use your gifts to serve God each day. Amen.
