Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, make us kind, as you are kind. Be with us now, and transform us from the inside out. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

In a dream, John had a vision,
Most amazing, and most rare,
Where he saw the throne of heaven
And a Lamb was standing there.

Angels singing in loud voices
Praised the Lord of heaven above;
“Worthy is the Lamb!” they shouted,
“He brings mercy, peace, and love!”

John was even more surprised when,
All the creatures of the sea,
Joined with those of earth and heaven
Praising God eternally.

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: How do you imagine John might have felt about the vision he had? Why do you think he wrote it down?

Child: What is a throne?  Describe what you picture the throne of heaven to look like.

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, you give us glimpses of heaven as we read your Word. May we always remember that with you in control, we have nothing to fear in this world or the next. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May your faith grow stronger, day by day! Amen.

Wednesday: Mercy

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Almighty God, thank you for being with us as we read your Word. Teach us more about your mercy each time we study together. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Revelation 5:5
Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop crying and look! The one who is called both the ‘Lion from the Tribe of Judah’ and ‘King David’s Great Descendant’ has won the victory. He will open the book and its seven seals.” (CEV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: John was told to “stop crying and look.” Have you ever been so upset about something that you couldn’t see the good things around you? Tell us about that.

Child: The Bible said that Jesus “won the victory.” Why is it important to know that we are on Jesus’ team and he is with us?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

God of grace, you sent your Son into the world to save us, because we could not save ourselves. May we never forget what this cost, or what it means for our lives. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you be grateful for all God has done for you. Amen.

Tuesday: Struggle

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord God, you never leave us alone or without help. Be with us now, and teach us all that you would have us know. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Revelation 5:2-4
I saw a mighty angel ask with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” No one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or see inside it. I cried hard because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or see inside it. (CEV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: What does it mean for someone to be “worthy?” Why was no one except the Lamb (Jesus) worthy to open the scroll? How is Jesus different from anyone else?

Child: John cried because he thought no one was worthy to open the scroll. Have you ever felt sad because of all the sin in our world? How does your faith in Jesus help you with this?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Heavenly Father, no matter what the future holds, we know that we can trust you. Help us to remember that always, especially when we are scared. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you remember your need for Jesus! Amen.

Monday: Understanding

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God's name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, help us to understand your Word as we study it now. Draw us closer to you while we learn more about your love for us. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Revelation 5:1-5, 11-14
John wrote what he saw in a vision of heaven, saying:
In the right hand of the one sitting on the throne I saw a scroll that had writing on the inside and on the outside. And it was sealed in seven places. I saw a mighty angel ask with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” No one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or see inside it. I cried hard because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or see inside it. Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop crying and look! The one who is called both the ‘Lion from the Tribe of Judah’ and ‘King David’s Great Descendant’ has won the victory. He will open the book and its seven seals.”

As I looked, I heard the voices of a lot of angels around the throne and the voices of the living creatures and of the elders. There were millions and millions of them, and they were saying in a loud voice, “The Lamb who was killed is worthy to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise.”  Then I heard all beings in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and in the sea offer praise. Together, all of them were saying, “Praise, honor, glory, and strength forever and ever to the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb!” The four living creatures said “Amen,” while the elders knelt down and worshiped. (CEV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: The writer,  John, saw angels who were praising God. What do you think an angel might look like? What do you imagine an angel’s voice might sound like?

Child: Why do you think Jesus is called the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world?”

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Lord God, thank you for sending Jesus, your own Son, into our world. Help us to remember how much he loves us, and to share that love with others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words:

May you praise God today! Amen.
