Saturday: Generosity

Pray:  Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Heavenly Father, you have provided us with all good gifts, including the gift of faith. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, so that we may be generous in sharing with others the gifts that you have given us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully to this reminder from Luther’s Small Catechism.

"I believe in Jesus Christ...  On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead."

What does this mean?
He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, and has freed me from sin, death, and the power of the devil, not with silver and gold, but with his holy and precious blood and his innocent suffering and death. (Luther's Small Catechism)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: To be "redeemed" means to be "bought back." How did Jesus buy us back?

Child: What does it mean to say that we belong to Jesus (and not to ourselves)?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, help us to know the depths of your mercy and grace that have been given to us through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May God grant you forgiveness of your sin and bring you to a new life in Christ. Amen.

Friday: Trust

Pray:  Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord God, you have promised that those who believe in your Son will have everlasting life. With the courage of your Holy Spirit, help us to share this same promise with others that we meet, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen:  Listen carefully as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

9-10 Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and some other women were the ones who had gone to the tomb. When they returned, they told the eleven apostles and the others what had happened. 11 The apostles thought it was all nonsense, and they would not believe. 12 But Peter ran to the tomb. And when he stooped down and looked in, he saw only the burial clothes. Then he returned, wondering what had happened. (Luke 24:9-12 ESV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Why did the apostles (Jesus' followers) think that Mary's message was foolishness?

Child: When have had moments of doubt were you didn't believe that Jesus could do what he said he would do?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Thank you Holy Spirit, for the gift of faith you have given us that grants us the ability to trust in your Word. With your Spirit living in us help us to trust you in more and more ways in our lives.  In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

Almighty Father, by your Word, open our eyes to the world around. Help us to see the place where our neighbors need our help. By your Holy Spirit, give us compassion to serve those in need, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen:  Listen carefully as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

Early to the tomb came Mary, to the place where Christ was buried.
There she found the open tomb, but Jesus was not in that room.
She told the others then who came; running there, they saw the same.
When they went home, Mary stayed, by the place where Christ had laid.
That was when the Lord appeared, she saw the one she held so dear.
She told his friends all what he had said, that Christ was risen from the dead!

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: How was the appearance of Jesus to Mary a comfort to her?

Child: Can we pray right now for people we know in need comfort in their grief?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Remember that while he was still in Galilee, he told you, 7 'The Son of Man will be handed over to sinners who will nail him to a cross. From the Book of Luke, Chapter 24, Verses 1-12:

Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, carrying the spices that they had prepared. When they found the stone rolled away from the entrance, they went in. But they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus, and they did not know what to think.

Suddenly two men in shining white clothes stood beside them. The women were afraid and bowed to the ground. But the men said, “Why are you looking in the place of the dead for someone who is alive? Jesus isn’t here! He has been raised from death. Remember that while he was still in Galilee, he told you, ’The Son of Man will be handed over to sinners who will nail him to a cross. But three days later he will rise to life.’ “ Then they remembered what Jesus had said.
