Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Heavenly Father, you have provided us with everything we need, including a trusting faith in your Son Jesus. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, so that we may be generous in sharing with others the good news of his life, death, and resurrection, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Listen: Listen carefully to this reminder from Luther’s Small Catechism.
What is Holy Communion?
Communion is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, given to us Christians to eat and drink, as it was instituted by Christ himself. (Luther's Small Catechism)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: What happens to us when you receive Communion? How does it make you feel?
Child: When will I begin to receive Holy Communion? Why is it important for me to be taught and prepared?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Lord God, you promise come to us in the breaking of the bread whenever we gather in your name. Pour out your Holy Spirit, so that we would be given a deeper faith and be strengthened to share the promise of Jesus with others. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May the Lord be with you and give you the strength to help others. Amen.
