Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty God, we ask that you would help us to trust in your abiding presence in our lives that may see you in our daily lives and know that you are right beside us and we can rely on you, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Listen: Listen carefully as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.
13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” (Luke 24:13-18 ESV)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: How do you think Cleopas and his friend felt as they were walking?
Child: Why didn't Jesus just tell them who he was right away?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Lord, we don't always understand everything that happens in our lives. We need you to help us notice and understand the ways in which you are acting all around us so that we can grow in faith and devotion to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May the Lord give you understanding and guidance each day. Amen.
