Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gracious Lord, on this Sabbath Day, may we take this time to rest and learn from you. Thank you for giving us the Bible, with all of its many lessons and teachings. Help us to understand it better each time we read it. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.
I will praise you, Lord! You saved me from the grave and kept my enemies from celebrating my death. I prayed to you, Lord God, and you healed me, saving me from death and the grave. (CEV)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: Have you ever been really sick, and then got better? What did you appreciate more after you had recovered?
Child: Sometimes people who are ill do not recover, but God heals them in other ways. How might that happen? What promise do we have, even in death?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Lord God, it is so hard to be sick, and to feel discouraged. But we know that you are there, giving comfort and peace. Please be with those who struggle with illness today, and bring them healing in body, mind and spirit. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you be well in body, mind and spirit! Amen.
