Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O God, on this Good Friday of Holy Week, may we realize our need for Jesus. Please be with us as we study our Small Catechism, and teach us to trust you more each day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Listen: Pay close attention to this reminder from Luther’s Small Catechism.
He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, and has freed me from sin, death, and the power of the devil, not with silver and gold, but with his holy and precious blood and his innocent suffering and death. (Luther’s Small Catechism)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: To “redeem” something means to buy it back. If Jesus redeemed you and me by giving his life for us, how must he feel about us?
Child: Jesus has freed us from the power of sin, death and the devil. How can knowing this affect how we live our lives?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Heavenly Father, you have done so much for us. You loved us even when we were lost in sin, and sent your Son to save us. We can never repay you for this incredible gift, but can only offer our heartfelt thanks. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you trust the Lord who gave everything for you! Amen.
