Tuesday: Struggle

Pray:  Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord God, life can be hard at times. But you never leave us on our own. Thank you for guiding us and helping us when we face challenges. Open our hearts and minds today, so that we may learn from our Bible story as we study it. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Luke 22:13-17
Pilate called together the chief priests, the leaders, and the people. He told them, “You brought Jesus to me and said he was a troublemaker. But I have questioned him here in front of you, and I have not found him guilty of anything that you say he has done. Herod didn’t find him guilty either and sent him back. This man doesn’t deserve to be put to death! I will just have him beaten with a whip and set free.” (CEV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Pilate and Herod found Jesus innocent, but the people demanded that he be put to death. If you were one of the rulers, what would you have done in this situation?

Child: Have you ever been accused of something you didn’t do? How did you handle that?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Heavenly Father, it must have been so hard to see your Son judged unfairly. But Jesus knew who he was, and so he was able to face his trials bravely. Help us to have courage in our own struggles, and to remember that we belong to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you remember that you are God’s beloved child! Amen.
