Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O God, please be with us today as we study Luther’s Small Catechism. Help us to understand it better, and by so doing, to understand the Bible more fully, as well. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Listen: Pay close attention to this reminder from Luther’s Small Catechism.
The kingdom of God comes indeed by itself, without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may also come to us. (Luther’s Small Catechism)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: God is our king when he rules our heart and we trust in him. Why do we want the kingdom of God to come to us? What does it mean to trust in King Jesus?
Child: In God’s kingdom of faith, who is in charge: us or Jesus? Why is that a good thing?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Heavenly Father, we want to believe and have a strong faith in Jesus. May your Holy Spirit stir up this faith in us, and help us to live good lives that are pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you have faith in Jesus! Amen.
