Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear God, we want to grow closer to you. Be with us as we study our Bible story together, and help us to notice how you care for and reach out to your people. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

After climbing up, up, up
On a mountain to the top
Peter, James, as well as John,
Found a rock to sit upon.

There, they saw an awesome sight:
Jesus’ clothes turned white as light,
And his face began to glow
Like the sun and bright as snow!

Soon some prophets did appear,
And God’s voice spoke loud and clear:
“Listen to my Holy One,”
“He is my beloved Son.”

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: What do you think Peter, James and John expected to see on the top of the mountain? Have you ever seen something so awesome, you didn’t quite know what to say?

Child: God told the disciples to listen to Jesus. What are some ways we can do that, today?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, sometimes we have “mountain top” experiences, where we feel so close to you. Other times, we feel like we are in a valley, lost and alone. Turn our hearts to you, so that we might listen to Jesus and be changed for the better. In his holy name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you trust the Lord with all your heart!  Amen.
