Wednesday: Mercy

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Almighty God, you care for us and watch over us, wherever we are. Be with us now, and help us to see the importance of faith as we study your Word. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Listen: Pay close attention as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Acts 28:5-6
Paul shook the snake off into the fire and wasn’t harmed. The people kept thinking that Paul would either swell up or suddenly drop dead. They watched him for a long time, and when nothing happened to him, they changed their minds and said, “This man is a god.” (CEV)

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: It’s easy to get upset when people think badly of us. But it can be just as easy to get puffed up when people think too well of us. Why would Paul not want the people to call him a god?

Child: Do you think the people would have thought Paul was a god  if they knew about the true God?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

God of grace, you have been called “The Great Physician.” Just as you protected Paul from danger, help those who are sick or in danger now. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May you be humble and merciful. Amen.
