Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, thank you for guiding us when we don’t know what to do. Hold us by the hand and lead us, today and always. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, we pray. Amen.

Listen:  Listen carefully as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

Paul and Silas left a town
Where they had been chased around.
Then they came to somewhere new;
Both were welcomed warmly, too.

In Berea (this new place),
They were listened to with grace.
All their words were well received;
Many heard, and then believed!

Some were angry and with shouts
Ordered Paul and Silas out!
So these two, with Timothy,
Went to Athens by the sea.

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: What happened after the people in Berea heard God’s Word? Did this affect how they behaved?

Child: If you lived in Berea, what would you have done to make Paul and Silas feel at home?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, we know that you have a plan for the world, and that it is good. Help us to share your Word with others, fearlessly. Make us kind and compassionate people. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May the Lord go with you, and give you peace today. Amen.
