Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.
From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Mighty Lord, you have created the heavens and the earth, and have given us all good things. Create in us a thankful heart and generous spirit, so that we would share with others the blessings you have given to us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Listen: Listen carefully to this reminder from Luther’s Small Catechism.
Baptism is not merely water; it is water used according to God's command and connected with God's Word ... as recorded in the last chapter of Matthew, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). (Luther's Small Catechism)
Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.
Child: When was the last time you saw someone being baptized? What happened?
Child: Have you ever written your name on something so that people would know it belongs to you? How does God put his name on us at baptism?
Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.
Holy God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – you call us by name and make us your own. We thank you for the gift of baptism. Help us to make your name known to all the world. Amen.
Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.
May you never forget that you belong to Jesus. Amen.
