Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, make us aware of the struggles that others are going through. Just as you have provided for our needs, help us to provide for the needs of others. Show us how we can serve you in the everyday moments of our lives, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

As he went from town to town,
Paul would preach to those he found.
In the meetings of the Jews
He told them all of the Good News.

But some among them didn’t listen,
rejecting Paul with boos and hissin.’
Paul was sad that his own people
didn’t want to hear the Gospel.

To the Gentiles then he went,
the ones to whom he had been sent.
They believed and understood
the news of Christ indeed was good.

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Was there ever a time when you felt bad for someone because you knew that things weren’t going well for them? Was there anything you could do to help?

Child: Who is someone that needs our prayers today? Can we pray for them right now?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, we know that you hear us when we pray. Today, we would like to pray especially for __________. Give us all the faith to put our cares and concerns in your hands, trusting that you care for us. In name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May the Holy Spirit give you the heart to serve others in Jesus’ name. Amen.
