Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …
in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, we live in a world of people who are struggling. But we thank you that, with you by our side, we have the power to keep going. We ask that you would open our eyes to see the needs of others, and bring us to places where we can be of help, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

As he traveled one fine day
Philip stopped along the way.
For he saw a Eunuch there
Reading something in Isaiah.

“See this book here in my hand?
Can you help me understand?”
Together reading from the Word,
Philip told him of the Lord.

After this, the Eunuch said,
“There’s some water up ahead.
Baptize me, for I believe!
And God’s Spirit I’ll receive!”

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Was there a time recently when you saw someone who needed help? What did you do?

Child: Is there someone or something I could do to help you?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, thank you for the opportunities we have to live out our faith. We ask that you would put us in the right place and the right time so that we could serve you. Give us the compassion to help those in need. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May the Holy Spirit give you the compassion to serve in Jesus’ name. Amen.
