Thursday: Compassion

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you …in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Almighty Father, just as Peter and John had compassion on a man born lame, help us to be compassionate to all we meet so that they might know your healing power, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully as the Bible story is read in the form of a rhyme.

Acts 3:1-10

John and Peter went to pray
At the temple late one day.
There they saw a crippled man
Sitting, begging, in the sand.

“Gold and silver we have not
But we’ll share what we have got:
“In Jesus’ name rise up and stand!
You can do it; take my hand!”

Peter, then, reached out his hand,
Helping the poor man to stand,
His legs were strong now, like a boy.
He could run and jump for joy!

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Do you think that God needs our help to make miracles happen? Why or why not?

Child: Has God ever used you to help another person? How do you know?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Holy God, you fill us with your love so that we would see others in need, and offer them help and a blessing in your name. Use us for your purpose, in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

May the Lord God use your hands, eyes, ears, and mouth to share the good news of Christ with others. Amen.
