Wednesday: Mercy

Pray: Begin by making the sign of the cross and calling upon God’s name.

From God to us, from death to life, from me to you … in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy God, you come to give us the strength we need to live each day. Thank you for your mercy and love. By your Holy Spirit, lead us to trust in your promise and serve you in all that we do, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Listen: Listen carefully as these verses from the Bible are read aloud.

Acts 3:5- 10
The man [who was born lame] stared at them and thought he was going to get something. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking.” Peter then took him by the right hand and helped him up. At once the man’s feet and ankles became strong, and he jumped up and started walking. He went with Peter and John into the temple, walking and jumping and praising God. Everyone saw him walking around and praising God. They knew that he was the beggar who had been lying beside the Beautiful Gate, and they were completely surprised. They could not imagine what had happened to the man.

Engage: Talk about the Bible by having parents respond to children’s questions.

Child: Who do you think was more surprised by the miraculous healing, the crowd or the man himself? Why could the people not imagine what happened to him?

Child: Have you ever experienced God’s help when you were in need?

Affirm: Pray for God to put his Word into action in your daily life.

Loving God, help us to recognize the ordinary and the  miraculous things that you do for us each day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have each person in the family bless one another with these words.

Jesus has given you the greatest gift of all: his love and forgiveness. Amen.
